"You are what you want to become. Why search anymore? You are a wonderful manifestation. The whole universe has come together to make your existence possible. There is nothing that is not you. The kingdom of God, the Pure Land, nirvana, happiness and liberation are all you."
Thich Nhat Hanh
The role of a psychiatrist is varied, but lately psychiatrists have been viewed in general as doctors who prescribe medications to help with mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc—we diagnose and then we treat with medication. This limited view is unfortunate. Yes, I do have a role in prescribing medication if that is what you are seeking. However my approach to treatment is one of connection and partnership. Through the evaluation process and subsequent visits whether it is for medication management, therapy, or both, I stress the importance of collaboration in understanding you or your child. My philosophy emphasizes restoration and discovery. Restoration in the sense that inner phenomenon such as negative emotions, thoughts, and false identifications have led a person astray from the path of their true potential and that healing is about returning back to the path of authentic self actualization. Discovery is in recognizing problematic life patterns, clarifying values, and taking action to live consistently with those values which in turn creates a meaningful life here and now. This is what I as a psychiatrist am hopeful to cultivate in you or your child.
